Queens Road West
The project replaces a low grade warehouse building with service yard occupying a thin and tapered site running adjacent to a railway cutting, with two building typologies, an apartment block with commercial ground floor and a separate terrace of dwellings. The design seeks to repair the building line, street edge and define the corner with two separate buildings which mediate the disparate scales and typologies.
The 6-storey apartment building contains 10 apartments and 2 commercial units with the adjacent 3-storey terrace housing 7 three-bedroom dwellings. The ambition was to provide a variety of usable amenity spaces for the family housing, including defensible space to the pavement, rear courtyards gardens, first floor terraces and large rooftop gardens.
